The RAT is designed for guitar but can also be used with bass as well. It is recommended to use an instrument or patch cable and not a cabinet/speaker cable. The pedal has a trebly tone added and loses some of the bottom but overall, it is a good recommendation for those looking for a distortion/overdrive effect. It has that Rat character that can be used to emulate sounds from Trevor Peres (Guitarist of Obituary).
